We have seen great leaps in digital technology in past the past five years. Smartphonescloud computingmulti-touch tablets, these are all innovations that revolutionized the way we live and work. However, believe it or not, we are just getting started. Technology will get even better. In the future, we could live like how people in science fiction movies did.


1. Google Glass

Augmented Reality has already gotten into our life in the forms of simulated experiment and education app, but Google is taking it several steps higher with Google Glass. Theoretically, with Google Glass, you are able to view social mediafeeds, text, Google Maps, as well as navigate with GPS and take photos. You will also get the latest updates while you are on the ground.

It’s truly what we called vision, and it’s absolutely possible given the fact that the Google’s co-founder, Sergey Brin has demo’ed the glass with skydivers and creatives. Currently the device is only available to some developers with the price tag of $1500, but expect other tech companies trying it out and building an affordable consumer version.

Just as the term suggests, 3D printing is the technology that could forge your digital design into a solid real-life product. It’s nothing new for the advanced mechanical industry, but a personal 3D printer is definitely a revolutionary idea.
Everybody can create their own physical product based on their custom design, and no approval needed from any giant manufacturer! Even the James Bond’s Aston Martin which was crashed in the movie was a 3D printed product!

3. Oculus Rift

Virtual Reality gaming is here in the form of Oculus Rift. This history-defining 3D headset lets you mentally feel that you are actually inside a video game. In the Rift’s virtual world, you could turn your head around with ultra-low latency to view the world in high resolution display.
There are premium products in the market that can do the same, but Rift wants you to enjoy the experience at only $300, and the package even comes as a development kit. This is the beginning of the revolution for next-generation gaming.
The timing is perfect as the world is currently bombarded with the virtual reality topic that could also be attributed to Sword Art Online, the anime series featuring the characters playing games in an entirely virtual world. While we’re getting there, it could take a few more years to reach that level of realism. Oculus Rift is our first step.

4. Leap Motion

Multi-touch desktop is a (miserably) failed product due to the fact that hands could get very tired with prolonged use, but Leap Motion wants to challenge this dark area again with a more advanced idea. It lets you control the desktop with fingers, but without touching the screen.

It’s not your typical motion sensor, as Leap Motion allows you to scroll the web page, zoom in the map and photos, sign documentss and even play a first person shooter game with only hand and finger movements. The smooth reaction is the most crucial key point here. More importantly, you can own this future with just $70, a price of a premium PS3 game title!
If this device could completely work with Oculus Rift to simulate a real-time gaming experience, gaming is going to get a major make-over.

5. Firefox OS

iOS and Android are great, but they each have their own rules and policies that certainly inhibit the creative efforts of developers. Mozilla has since decided to build a new mobile operating system from scratch, one that will focus on true openness, freedom and user choice. It’s Firefox OS.
Firefox OS is built on Gonk, Gecko and Gaia software layers – for the rest of us, it means it is built on open source, and it carries web technologies such as HTML5and CSS3.

Developers can create and debut web apps without the blockade of requirements set by app stores, and users could even customize the OS based on their needs. Currently the OS has made its debut on Android-compatible phones, and the impression so far, is great.
You can use the OS to do essential tasks you do on iOS or Android: calling friends, browsing web, taking photos, playing games, they are all possible on Firefox OS, set to rock the smartphone market.

MLADEN BARBARIC IS sick of tape measures. They’re unruly and awkward. Using them on curved surfaces is like trying to gift wrap a golf club. “Tape measures haven’t changed since 1869,” he says. As founder of design studio Pearl and the industrial designer behind the fitness-tracking Misfit Shine, the seizure-detecting Empatica Embrace, and a host of other products, Barbaric would know. Despite working in a mostly digital environment, most of the tools he uses while designing—rulers, calipers, and, yes, tape measures—are still analog.
“Tools today outside of the computer and phone are not really well thought out,” he says. “They’re just archaic.” But Barbaric has a solution to old-school measuring tools. He’s calling it the InstruMMent 01. The multi-purpose gadget (now raising funds on Indiegogo) looks like a pen and works like a handheld surveyor’s wheel. At one end is your choice of a pen, pencil, or stylus; at the other is a black rubberized wheel designed to roll over flat and curved surfaces. As the wheel turns, sensors inside the gadget record the distance it travels in 0.1 mm increments. A laser at the tip of the roller help you gauge, visually, where your measurement begins and ends.
The choice to make the object roll wasn’t initially obvious. “It took us a little while to figure out what the optimal form factor was,” Barbaric says. He knew the object had to be small and be able to measure curved surfaces as well as flat ones. For Barbaric, his ideal measuring tool could be held in one hand, fit in a laptop bag, and pull double duty (hence the pen). It ended up that the object’s rolling mechanism solved for all of these considerations, while also making it more adaptable and accurate than a standard tape measure.
It also does more work than a tape measure. For starters, you can capture the dimensions of basically any object, straight or curved, and send it wirelessly to your phone, where it appears as a card with a photo and description. From the accompanying app, you can convert imperial units to metric (or vice versa), and translate the scaled quantities on a map or drawing to real-world units—a handy feature for anyone who works from blueprints. And you can program the tool’s laser to blink at predetermined increments, to help space measurements equally. (Barbaric hints that the device is capable of more, and could acquire more feature in the future, but was tight-lipped about what those features might be.)
Barbaric designed the 01 to make designers’ lives easier, and it does. The tool packs a lot of functionality into a small, attractive package that its intended audience will certainly find useful. But Barbaric, perhaps unsurprisingly, is finding that the device has applications outside the studio. “I’ve seen guys have bicep competitions,” he says. “And the first thing my wife did was measure our kid.”

In a new comparison video, popular YouTuber SuperSaf TV squares off Samsung’s Galaxy S7 Edge, Google’s Pixel XL and Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus to find out which smartphone has the fastest battery charging capabilities – and the outcome might surprise you.
To avoid giving one of the devices an unfair advantage, SuperSaf uses the original chargers that ship along with each handset and puts all phones in flight mode to limit factors that could influence the results, like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Each device begins charging at one percent of remaining battery life. As the YouTuber explains, starting from a completely empty battery will give the Android phones an edge as the iPhone needs to switch on before it can begin charging.


After half an hour of charging, the S7 Edge takes the early lead with 46 percent of battery life, leaving behind the Google Pixel at 24 percent and the iPhone at 18 percent.

The test continues in a similar fashion with the S7 finishing first after approximately an hour and a half of charging. Meanwhile, the Google Pixel XL comes in second with a time of a little over two hours, leaving the lagging iPhone 7 Plus at third with a time of almost three and a half hours.

The average web page loads at 6.3 Mbps universally, a number that denotes how many million bits of data can be moved in a second.
While 6.3 mbps is quick enough to send an email or watch a Netflix show, it’s still very slow.
Akamai Technologies, a Massachusetts-based internet provider, did a study on how the internet speeds measure up in countries worldwide. The company releases a report every quarter that ranks countries as per their internet speed.
According to them, here are the top 10 countries, which are mentioned in descending order of net connectivity.
1. South Korea

According to the Akami report, people in South Korea enjoy the fastest internet in the world. The country’s average internet speed measures 29 Mbps, which is 4.6 times as quick as the global average.
To put things in viewpoint, the average HD film is about 5,000 mb. A computer could download that in a little over two and a half minutes at 29 Mbps speed.
In spite of more than 80% of South Korean households have access to some of the world’s fastest internet connections, they face usage limitations. Several internet users have to face strong internet censorship in South Korea, according to a 2015 report by the nonprofit Freedom House.
2. Norway.

10. Finland

People in Finland use the internet at 17.7 Mbps on an average, which is comparatively fast.
In 2010, the country’s Ministry of Transport and Communications provided every Finnish citizen at least a one Mbps internet connection. The IT team at HRHCare has seen its workload rise in recent years, as the Beacon, N.Y.-based nonprofit has added facilities and expanded its services.
Eric Brosius, the organization's vice president of technology services, wants to expand the staff so his team will be able to cope with the added responsibilities and tackle new technology initiatives.
Specifically, Brosius says he wants to add another six or seven full-time people to his staff of 17 full-timers. His first hiring priority: two tech support folks. Then he wants to hire someone with architecture skills and experience working with software-as-a-service and cloud-based offerings to guide operations as the organization moves out of its own data center into a colocation site.
The results of Computerworld's Forecast 2016 survey suggest that Brosius will face stiff competition for top talent when he goes to recruit people: 37% of the 182 IT professionals who responded to the survey said they likewise plan to increase head count in the upcoming year -- that's a significant jump from last year, when only 24% said they planned to add new staff. Moreover, 24% of those polled this year listed "attracting new talent" as first among their business priorities for the next 12 months.
Complicating the recruiting challenge for Brosius is the fact that he's looking for people with three of the 10 skills most in demand among survey respondents who plan to hire new employees in the next 12 months: IT architecture, tech support and cloud computing.
John Reed, senior executive director of IT staffing firm Robert Half Technology, confirms that hiring managers could be facing a challenging year. "The market has been really strong, and we're expecting it will stay that way for the foreseeable future," he says. "I don't think you'll see explosive growth, but you'll see single-digit growth in demand, consistent with what we've seen over the past few years."
How to cope? Companies will need a comprehensive recruiting strategy in order to bring in great workers. They'll also need to put a lot of effort into retention so they won't have their best people walking out as new hires are walking in, Reed says. "If you have that two-pronged approach, you're probably going to be OK," he says. "You're certainly going to do better than most."
